Flights to China are not just about finding the lowest fare. The best ticket is the one that fits your entry city, hotel plan, transfer comfort, baggage needs, and backup options if something changes.
1. Start with your first city, not only the cheapest airport
Many travelers compare flights into Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, or Hong Kong without checking what happens after arrival. A cheaper airport can still be a poor choice if it adds a long transfer, an overnight hotel, or a difficult domestic connection.
Ask this first: where do I want to sleep on night one? Then choose the airport and flight time that make that answer easy.
2. Check the arrival time carefully
A late-night arrival can be fine if you have an airport hotel or a clear transfer plan. It is less ideal if you are traveling with children, heavy luggage, or a hotel in a district far from the airport. For first-time visitors, daytime or early evening arrivals are usually easier.
3. Understand stopovers and separate tickets
If your route uses more than one airline, check whether it is one through-ticket or separate tickets. Separate tickets may mean collecting bags, checking in again, clearing transit procedures, and carrying more risk if the first flight is delayed.
- Leave more time for international-to-domestic transfers.
- Check whether baggage is through-checked.
- Confirm transit rules with the airline before booking.
4. Confirm entry and document requirements
Before booking a non-refundable ticket, check your passport validity, visa or visa-free eligibility, transit rules, and any airline document checks. Use official sources such as the National Immigration Administration, the relevant Chinese embassy/consulate, or your airline’s own travel document guidance.
5. Look beyond the ticket price
A slightly more expensive flight can be better if it gives you better arrival timing, more flexible changes, included baggage, or a simpler transfer. Compare the full cost:
- Checked baggage and seat fees
- Airport-to-hotel transport
- Extra hotel nights caused by bad arrival times
- Change and cancellation rules
- Connection risk
6. Decide what should be booked before landing
For a smoother first day, book at least your first hotel and airport transfer plan before departure. If you arrive during a busy period or continue to another city, also review domestic flight or train options before you leave home.
7. When a human review helps
A human review is useful when you have multiple city options, complex stopovers, family travelers, or uncertainty about where to land. Hello China Go can compare practical route choices and help you avoid tickets that look cheap but create problems later.
